The Disciple’s Pathfinder
Explore Your Journey as a Disciple of Jesus
Making disciples who know how to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did (and is doing) is not a one-moment decision but an ongoing, relational journey.
When someone hears the gospel and believes in Jesus Christ, they are saved and experience a spiritual new birth. In that moment, they are reconnected to God through Jesus by the Spirit, empowering them to live a new life in the family of God.
The journey a person will take to move from a non-believer, to a new believer, to a mature disciple of Jesus who makes disciples is a “disciple-making pathway.”
If we use familial language, we can identify five key stages1 in the disciple-making pathway:
- Spiritual Infant
- Spiritual Child
- Spiritual Young Adult
- Spiritual Parent
- Spiritual Grandparent
The Disciple’s Pathfinder is meant to help you identify where you are on your journey, and provide guidance and next steps as you continue being formed into a disciple-making disciple of Jesus.

SPIRITUAL INFANT
The early stage of our journey when we are formed in key, foundational truths around our new identity in Jesus and everyday rhythms as His disciples.
SPIRITUAL CHILD
We move toward taking greater ownership of our faith and ongoing development as we practice the many “One Another’s” from Scripture, engage in interdependent relationships within the family of God, become aware of and begin to walk in obedience to Jesus’ commands, and begin to engage in spiritual practices.
SPIRITUAL YOUNG ADULT
We continue building on the gospel foundation we have been given as we learn how to serve and lead others with the unique gifts, personality, and experiences God has given us.
SPIRITUAL PARENT
Equipped and now ready to lead our own spiritual family/community where we welcome and care for spiritual infants, train up spiritual children, and prepare and bless spiritual young adults to lead their own spiritual families someday.
SPIRITUAL GRANDPARENT
Ready to coach, support, and build discipleship multiplication processes for those younger in the faith to grow, mature, and flourish.
